"Welcome to the UCLA Department of Biological Chemistry website. A basic science department within the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, we conduct innovative, high-impact biological and translational research and educate students and postdoctoral fellows to become critical, creative and effective independent scientists. We have a vibrant intellectual culture rooted in rigorous and interdisciplinary research and education. Department members are passionate about science. Frequent and stimulating interactions among faculty, staff and trainees reflect and foster a spirit of curiosity and a commitment to excellence.

Faculty in our department have made fundamental contributions to cell and molecular biology, including advances in stem cell biology, cancer biology, gene regulation, neurobiology, development, and structural biology. In recognition of these contributions, members of our faculty have received many honors, including the Lasker Award and membership in the National Academy of Sciences."
